“Krak The Code” Interactive Trivia Game

To create an engaging digital activation for fans, an interactive trivia experience titled “Krak The Code” was designed and developed for Kraken at the Williams Racing fan zone. The goal of the project was to create a high-energy, gamified experience inspired by the classic quiz format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, allowing visitors to test their knowledge on Formula 1, Williams and Kraken and compete with other participants in a live event environment.

The activation was designed as a 55” touch screen interactive quiz experience where participants could register, answer progressively challenging questions, and attempt to reach the final level without making a mistake. Over the course of the event, the experience attracted approximately 2,000 participants, creating an engaging activity within the fan zone while also capturing valuable user engagement data.

Concept and Experience Design

The concept behind “Krak The Code” was to transform a traditional trivia quiz into a fast-paced digital competition that could easily be played by visitors in a busy event environment.

The experience began with a registration step, where users entered their personal details and agreed to the terms and conditions before starting the quiz. This ensured smooth participation while also enabling structured data capture for the event organisers.

Once registered, participants entered the quiz interface displayed on a large screen within the fan zone. The visual design of the interface was fully customised to align with Kraken’s brand identity and the racing environment of the Williams F1 fan zone. The UI incorporated bold visual elements, countdown timers, and clear question layouts to ensure the experience remained engaging and easy to follow even in a crowded public setting.

Game Structure and Mechanics

The quiz was structured across four progressive levels, each representing a higher level of difficulty. Participants needed to successfully answer questions at each stage in order to advance to the next level.

The gameplay followed a simple but high-pressure rule system:

• Each question had a 25-second countdown timer
• Players had to select the correct answer before time ran out
• A single incorrect answer resulted in immediate elimination

This format introduced a strong sense of tension and excitement, similar to popular televised quiz competitions. As players advanced through the levels, the questions became more challenging, encouraging participants to think quickly and test their knowledge under pressure.

Web-Based Platform Development

The experience was built as a fully web-based application, allowing it to run smoothly across multiple devices and display environments. The game engine handled question logic, timers, answer validation, and user progression through the quiz stages.

A major component of the project was the development of a custom backend Content Management System (CMS). The CMS allowed the client team to manage and update the game content easily without requiring technical intervention.

Through the CMS dashboard, the client could:

• Add or edit quiz questions
• Adjust difficulty levels
• Configure prizes and rewards
• Monitor participant data
• Track winners and gameplay statistics

This flexibility ensured that the content could be updated quickly during the event if required.

Leaderboard and Competitive Engagement

To encourage repeat participation and competition among visitors, the experience included a live leaderboard system. The leaderboard displayed the top-performing participants based on their progress through the quiz levels and overall performance.

This feature created a competitive atmosphere within the fan zone, as participants aimed to outperform previous players and secure a position among the top scorers.

The leaderboard also helped maintain engagement among spectators who were watching the game unfold on the large screen.

The result was a memorable fan experience that blended entertainment, knowledge, and competition into a single interactive activation.
